Two Years Timeline/Runway — 1st Post

Image
I've decided to create a blog to keep track of my overall SaaS small business progress. I'm going to give myself a runway of two years. That means on May 1st, 2025 if I have not created a SaaS small business with a minimum of $3,600 a month recurring revenue then I'm gonna shut it down. Why $3,600? I think that's about what I would need to sustain a remote contact developer. So what's my plan? Currently I'm in a search for a remote contract full-stack dev on UpWork. Here's my current experience and learnings so far. If you are NOT a developer, you're gonna have a really hard time finding a developer. You need to find a developer to help you filter through applicants. You have to be patient and know that it's a numbers game.

Income vs. Living Wage in Seattle & Washington State

Image
While researching, I found two great sources of data.  The US Census Bureau has income in the past 12 months, broken down by household types & income levels (for Washington State ). The Living Wage calculator by MIT's Dr. Amy K. Glasmeier, which allows you to see what the living wage is by location, and household type (for Washington State ). I wanted to look at how many households in Washington state were below the living wage. Here's the breakdown. Based on the Living Wage Calculator + Washington State: 1 Adult + 0 Children (Living Wage) $16.34/hr or $33,987/annual = Living Wage $6.13/hr or $12,750/annual = Poverty Wage Living Wage + Washington State + Single Typical Expenses Annual Monthly Food $3,791.00 $315.92 Medical $2,206.00 $183.83 Housing $13,739.00 $1,144.92 Transportation $4,900.00 $408.33 Civic $1,811.00 $150.92 Other $2,794.00 $232.83 Min After-Tax Income $29,242.00 $2,436.83 Min Before-Tax Income $33,982.00 $2,831.83 Based on the US Census + Washington Sta...

ROI of a 4 Year University — UW

Image
Going purely by numbers, what is the ROI on the various degrees offered by higher education? What do you need to know before you can calculate the ROI or when you'll be able to pay back student loans if you've taken any. Is it a better option to go straight into work after high school? Cost of a 4 Year University — University of Washington Let's choose the University of Washington as an example (as I'm an alumnus). Based on their website on an Annual Student Budget for 2021 - 22 , these are the breakdown in costs. I'll be using their Seattle campus and not their Bothell or Tacoma campuses. U of W Seattle Campus 2021 - 2022 Academic Year Student Budget “Annual” means the school academic year which is 9 months (Oct - Jun). I'm also showing costs for Resident students and not Non-Resident students, whose tuition would be $39.114. Budget Items Living with Parents/Relatives Living on/off campus Rent, utilities, & food $4,725 $14,871 Personal & miscellaneous $...
